2024 OMCA Lunar New Year Celebration
On February 17th, Hansamo performed for the Lunar New Year celebration at the Oakland Museum of California. The performance, featuring Cheongsa Chorong, Samgomu, Nanta, and Pangut, enthralled the audience gathered indoors due to the rainy weather. Before each performance, representatives from each team had time to introduce their team, traditional instruments, and the performance itself. While the performance itself brought joy and exhilarating energy, providing explanations enhanced the audience's enjoyment.
Staff member was also present on stage, conveying Hansamo students' stories in sign language. Not only music but also sign language served as mediators for celebrating the Lunar New Year and experiencing diverse cultures.
Oakland is home to many Chinese Americans. There are street signs in Chinese characters. It is also a city with a rich history, with African Americans having long-established roots. We were grateful for the opportunity to share Korean traditional culture with such a diverse city at its museum, which reflects the accumulation of various cultures over time.
