2025 Stanford White Plaza Performance and Workshop
hosted by Korean Student Association

On Sunday, March 2, Hansamo performed at Stanford University's White Plaza at the invitation of the Korean Student Association. Hansamo students eagerly anticipate this event each year, as it offers a unique opportunity to connect with members of Stanford’s Korean Student Association. The event began with a powerful Nanta performance, followed by a graceful Samgomu dance, and concluded with an energetic Pungmulnori performance.

The powerful sound of the Nanta drums opened the first performance, perfectly complementing the beautiful sky, natural surroundings, and peaceful atmosphere. During the Samgomu performance, five performers dressed in yellow skirts and white jeogori showcased impressive choreography, seamlessly blending dynamic drum rhythms with synchronized movements that echoed beautifully throughout the campus. The event culminated in a vibrant Pungmulnori performance that captivated passersby and local residents, drawing them in with its lively beats and energy. This year, the Pungmulnori team introduced new choreography and rhythms, incorporating dynamic additions. Among them, acrobatic turns while playing the drums in synchronized circles brought heightened energy and excitement to the performance.

After the performances, performers and parents enjoyed a delicious lunch of tteokbokki and gimbap, generously provided by the Korean Student Association. Following the meal, a workshop led by Stanford students Tayne Kim, Eujin Jung, Hannah Kim, and Hyunjune Cho gave Hansamo students the chance to connect and learn about college life. The workshop was designed to foster meaningful interactions between Hansamo performers, primarily high school students, and Stanford University students.  The high school participants were divided into several small groups, each with a Stanford student to answer questions and engage in discussions. Throughout the session, the Stanford students rotated between groups, allowing each group of high school students to interact with several Stanford students. This format provided the high schoolers with different insights and perspectives as they heard about various college experiences, academic paths, and personal stories from the Stanford students.

This annual collaboration between Hansamo and Stanford KSA has become a cherished tradition. Though it takes place only once a year, the event fosters meaningful cultural exchange and lasting connections, creating unforgettable memories for all participants.
